Moonrise Kingdom

The movie I choose was Moonrise Kingdom directed by Wes Anderson. It is about the town New Penzance and a storm that is about to hit the island. The movie follows two children, Sam and Suzy, who run away to the woods and fall and love. They try to find a way to be together despite their family and friends and throughout the movie they change each other for the better. The cast includes Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, and Tilda Swinton.

The most interesting part of the movie for me was the relationship between Sam and Suzy and how it develops throughout the film.  At the beginning of the movie Suzy is somewhat of a loner who is distant from her family and feels ignored by them and that they think of her as more of a problem than a daughter. While in her house she is wearing bright colors while the rest of her family is in neutral colors to help show her being an outsider. Sam also feels like a loner from being an orphan and thinking that nobody likes him in his troop. When the two first meet and start exchanging letters they start to bond over how similar they feel. These leads them to devise a plan to run away to the woods together and away from their problems. 

In the woods Sam is in his element from being an excellent scout. Suzy however is very much out of her element and the film expresses that from what choose to have her wear. Throughout their time Suzy is wearing a bright pink dress which contrasts from all the neutral shades from the woods and the uniform Sam is wearing. It shows how Suzy is usually different and apart from everyone else in her life. Suzy is also carrying around her cat trapped in a basket and this is to symbolize how she feels trapped in her own life. When Suzy and Sam go down to the lake and jump it Suzy changes out her wet clothes into her underwear. This is the first time Suzy is shown wear more neutral colors and it shows that she is feeling less of an outsider and getting closer to Sam. 

After the two leave the forest the clothes Suzy wears afterward are more toned down and less aggressive colors. When Suzy and Sam have their wedding Suzy is still wearing pink but is a lot less bright and has shades of red in it. At the end of the movie was she then seen wearing when she is seen sitting with Sam. The film used all these different colors to show how Suzy was feeling was feeling throughout the film.
